Airbnb Tasks is gone: what to use instead (for hosts with 1–10 properties)

Airbnb shut down its Tasks tool in April 2024. Two years on, small hosts are still stuck between unreliable free workarounds and enterprise-tier platforms. Here's the honest breakdown of what actually replaces Tasks if you have 1–10 properties.

Airbnb quietly killed its Tasks feature in April 2024. If you remember: it was the built-in scheduling tool inside the host dashboard where you’d assign turnovers to cleaners, and they’d get a notification. Not great, but free and integrated.

Two years on, hosts still Google “Airbnb Tasks replacement” and “what to use now that Airbnb Tasks is gone.” The top results are either very old (pre-sunset guides pointing at the tool itself) or written for property management companies. For a host with 1–10 properties, none of the obvious answers fit cleanly.

Here’s the honest breakdown.

Why Airbnb killed Tasks

Airbnb never announced a clear reason. The reasonable read:

The sunset left a gap. Not a huge one for the kind of hosts Airbnb’s Marketplace partners serve (20+ properties, dedicated ops team), but a genuine one for the 1–10 property host who just wanted something basic and free.

What the obvious replacements actually offer

Turno (formerly TurnoverBnB)

Breezeway

Properly

Spreadsheet + group text (a real answer)

Honestly: a lot of small hosts went back to this after Tasks was killed. A shared Google Sheet with turnover dates, a group WhatsApp with cleaners. It works until it doesn’t.

hostcare.app (full disclosure - what I built)

I was one of those hosts stuck between the options above. So I built what I actually wanted: a scheduling tool priced for 1–25 property hosts with the features Tasks was missing.

The right question

It’s not really “what replaces Tasks?” The right question is:

How many properties do you manage, and what breaks first when you scale?

Properties What Tasks actually gave you Best replacement
1 A place to write down cleaning dates A spreadsheet + group text is fine
2–3 Above + cleaner assignment hostcare Starter ($19/mo) or Properly
4–10 Above + iCal sync across platforms hostcare Growing ($39/mo), Turno, or Properly
10–25 Above + payment tracking at scale hostcare Portfolio ($79/mo) or Turno
25+ You were never the Tasks audience Breezeway, Operto, ResortCleaning

The reason I’m laying this out as a table is: the “which Tasks replacement” conversation usually starts with someone suggesting Turno to everyone regardless of scale. Turno’s fine for some hosts and wrong for others. Same with Breezeway, same with Properly. Your property count is the variable that actually matters.

What I’d do if you’re still on the spreadsheet

Three honest recommendations, depending on how you feel about your current setup:

Option 1: Spreadsheet working, just wish it were tighter. Stay on the spreadsheet. Add one thing: a shared Google Calendar where cleaners accept/decline turnovers. Zero cost, marginal improvement, no tool to learn.

Option 2: Spreadsheet is breaking - missed turnovers, no-shows. You’re at the tool threshold. Pick whichever of hostcare / Turno / Properly has the pricing that punishes your growth least. For 1–10 properties that’s usually hostcare’s flat tiers or Turno (if you trust their network).

Option 3: Spent a year Turno-shopping and it’s not clicking. The Turno reliability issue is real and it’s why I built hostcare. Try the 14-day trial (no credit card), see if the SMS dispatch makes more sense. If it doesn’t, you’ve lost 20 minutes.

Why nothing has cleanly replaced Tasks in two years

The honest answer: most SaaS wants you to scale into higher tiers. Tasks’s market - the 1-to-10 property host who wants something simple and cheap - doesn’t produce enterprise expansion revenue. Turno, Breezeway, Properly all target bigger operators because that’s where the economics work.

The segment Airbnb Tasks served has been under-served ever since - which is why you’re still Googling “Airbnb Tasks replacement” in 2026. It’s not a failure of the tools; it’s a function of where venture-scale SaaS makes its money.

The fix, for what it’s worth, is flat pricing - tools that charge the same whether you have 3 properties or 25, so growing doesn’t punish you. That’s what I tried to build with hostcare. You can evaluate it or not; the bigger point is to look for that pricing shape whatever tool you pick.
